Outdoor Learning at Smith's Wood

It has been another fantastic week here at Smiths Wood. The rain didn't hold us back as this week, we celebrated National Outdoor Classroom Day across each year group in the school. Every class bubble had the opportunity to take one of their lessons outside. Year 3 took their data handling in Maths to the pond area where they counted which animals and insects could be found. Building on their Maths skills, year 4 used coordinates to move around the playground, and also went outside during Literacy to get inspiration for a setting description. Year 6 linked Geography to Art and created a map of Smiths Wood using materials from their outdoor surrounding areas. As well as this, KS1 joined in the fun! Year 1 made bird's nests through an outdoor Design & Technology lesson during their forest school session, whilst year 2 mind mapped adjectives surrounding Florence Nightingale using their bodies as an outline.
