They came, they saw, they conquered! Yesterday afternoon, Smith's Woods' amazing athletes stormed the imperious walls of The Coleshill School sports centre hoping for a shot at the converted gold medals from the prestigious North Solihull Panathlon competition.
Every player competed to the absolute best of their ability, showing superhuman teamwork and determination as well as a herculean level of friendship and respect.
Competition was fierce, nerves were jangling, palms were sweaty, knees weak, arms were heavy but our wondrous athletes rose to the challenge, competing in event after event.
A calm and collected approach saw our participants through to the end of the competition, managing to score an amazing gold place victory over all other schools competing and ensuring them a slot in the national championships!
We are so proud of the entire team and their amazing achievement. Well done to everyone who competed!

Each week, during our Friday Achievement assembly, we celebrate our ‘Pupils of the Week’ from each year group. Pupils are recognised for this weekly award for a variety of reasons and are nominated by their class teacher. They may have excelled in a particular subject through the week; may have shown one, or more, of the school values in abundance, or they may have impressed their teacher, or other staff members with a huge amount of effort. Whatever they are nominated for, they are recognised in the whole school achievement assembly, receive a certificate to take home and get to wear one of our prestigious black and gold t-shirts.
During the assembly, we also celebrate children who have 100% attendance for the week and have been in school every day on time. A lucky dip, of all children who are eligible takes place, and one pupil walks away with £5 to spend on whatever they want, Standards and presentation of a child’s book, chosen at random, are also reviewed and celebrated with the school and the child, whose book has been chosen, has the chance to win a dip out of the basket of goodies, as long as they have used their best handwriting every day, completed their feed forward marking and taken care in the presentation of their date and learning objective. We are extremely proud of all of the efforts of our pupils and the Friday Achievement assembly recognises this pride.

What an amazing trip Year 4 had at Red Ridge. Every child pushed themselves to new limits and supported those who found some of the challenges tricky. Children experienced what it was like in a real caving system, crawling and scrambling through small spaces. In addition, they also excelled in the rock climbing and abseiling over 30ft of rock. It has definitely been an experience they will never forget, creating life long memories and achieving great things.

West Midlands Police will also be holding an open-door community drop-in surgery, on Thursday 8th May from 12:00pm -13:00pm. They can offer help, advice and talk to people about local issues of concern.
Today we have celebrated our pupils of the term. These children have been nominated by their class teachers to receive an end of term prize. This is a prestigious award, as the pupil of the term nominations are for those children who have impressed their teachers repeatedly over the whole of the Autumn term. We would like to congratulate all of our pupil of the term winners and thank them for showing the school values in abundance this term. We are extremely proud of all of the efforts of our pupils and the Friday Achievement assembly recognises this pride.

Last night, our brave contestants from year 5's Bat and Hulk houses took on the daunting challenge of the cube. Both teams started the night with fierce determination to beat the cube and walk away with the grand total of 500 house points!
Both teams battled through numerous testing challenges, putting their teamwork and perseverance to the test. Sadly, both teams failed to complete The Cube and ended up walking away without any housepoints. Well done to all teams who competed and made for a fantastic night!
