World Book Day 2025 was another fantastic day at Smith's Wood Primary Academy, with the theme of 'Read Your Way', where every child and adult was encouraged to come dressed as their favourite book character!
Throughout the morning, all children took part in a short story competition in Maths, where they had to write about a school mystery in only 100 words, and then had a go at redesigning a front cover for their favourite book. In Literacy, the children got their creative juices flowing by changing the plot of a famous story, with our Year 6 children writing about Matilda having a horrible teacher but a lovely family!
During the afternoon, all lessons were again based around a love of reading, but the children were also all invited to choose a book from our Pop Up Bookshop. As part of the Children's Free Book Project, our school were donated enough books for each child to come and select their very own book to take home. To end the day, our older children swapped with our younger children and they were all given the opportunity to read their favourite books to each other.
Overall, it was a fantastic day for everyone involved!
